A Goal Worth Defending
Preparing Kansas City for the 2026 World Cup
When Kansas City welcomes the world for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the region will see an unprecedented influx of visitors, tourism, and international attention.
Unfortunately, major global events can also create increased opportunities for human trafficking and sexual exploitation.
ReHope is working alongside community partners to ensure Kansas City is prepared not only to recognize exploitation but also to respond quickly with real support and pathways to recovery for survivors.
One of the ways this work is happening is through a collaborative effort known as the WARS Council.
World Cup Aftercare Resources & Services (WARS) Council
The World Cup Aftercare Resources & Services (WARS) Council is a coalition of nonprofit organizations and community partners committed to coordinating survivor care before, during, and after the World Cup.
Rather than working in isolation, organizations within the WARS Council collaborate to ensure survivors can be quickly connected to the services they need most.
Who We Are
The WARS Council brings together organizations experienced in survivor advocacy, crisis intervention, outreach, and long-term recovery services. By coordinating efforts, partners are able to respond more effectively when individuals seek help.
What We Do
Through collaboration with law enforcement, service providers, and community partners, the WARS Council helps coordinate a pathway of care that may include:
- Initial contact through outreach teams, placement partners, or referrals
- Immediate assessment and safety planning
- Connection to housing, aftercare, and recovery services
- Long-term support to help survivors rebuild their lives
By aligning these efforts across organizations, the WARS Council strengthens Kansas City’s ability to respond with compassion, coordination, and care.
Together, these partners are working to ensure that no survivor faces the journey to recovery alone.
